The Mechanics of the Story
- Title|The Mechanics of the Story
- Material|giclée
- Dimensions|50*40 cm
- Date|2019
- Caption|I started with the characters and elements in “Theoretically, An Impact" and went on a “random collage trip". Just as you make another dish out of the leftover ingredients, I switch “Theoretically, An Impact" from a (linear) video to a (co-temporal) static paper surface, creating a different sense of time for reading. The characters originally belonging to different sections of the video, such as the old lady, Titanic’s lover and the scenes in the film, such as the bathroom, the fish tank and the accident scene, are collaged and juxtaposed to produce a different moral than the video.

- Caption|Adapted from “Theoretically, An Impact". In this graphic work I chose to start with a scene, the top left is the view from inside the car, where an expressionless policeman stands on duty; the top right is the parrot that survived the gun battle; the bottom part of the work, which also takes up most of the space, shows the policeman and the two fugitives face to face, encountering each other in a boring land. In this piece, I used my mouse to draw the soft, crumbly lines without the use of harder geometric elements. When the lines are drawn by hand and then by mouse, they naturally appear in the digital interface with a sense of awkwardness. I’m not a good painter, I’m not very good at drawing, so I rarely go back and revise. I always follow the traces of my mouse and tell myself, “Just Keep Drawing! “.
